Technology and Manufacturing

Keep New Products FlowingProduction operations generate vast amounts of data that require copying from manufacturing to central data storage.

Automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, and other manufacturing industries face ever-decreasing design cycles and increased competitive pressure. Most technology and manufacturing entities have pushed to automate the factory floor as much as possible and then connect to it and push production data to the back office. This model drives data in two directions: the data/programs to control the factory floor and the data resulting from production. In either case, the manufacturing process will produce lots of data that is mostly stored on servers.

Data migration to new systems must be extremely fast, accurate and minimize downtime as any impact on production could be catastrophic. And, because production data is tied to the financial performance of the organization, it is subject to the compliance requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley and it must be secured. If data is migrated to new storage or servers a complete auditable trail must be provided.

Technology and Manufacturing Data Migration Challenge

FilePilot Solution

Minimize impact to production environment

Modern manufacturing equipment will often contain computer systems with the user interface and/or data handling portion utilizing Microsoft Windows or compatible file services. These systems or those that implement the CIFS network file system interface can be directly accessed by FilePilot Copy. The data is copied while the machines are in operation, insuring no costly down-time for production machines.

Disaster Recovery

FilePilot Copy™'s simple site licensing model allows for multiple installations of the program. For a specific machine system, FilePilot Copy™ has the ability to directly copy a system's key files to a share on a local DR system. In the event of a machine crash the machine image can be quickly restored.

Virtualized Storage

Virtual storage can be used as a cloning station. The file contents of a production machine are copied to a VM image. From there the files can be copied to a new machine to be brought online to replace or supplement the existing production machine.

Support for SOX compliance

FilePilot Copy™ provides detailed logs of every migration performed to ensure that a legal trail of document location and changes to the document timeline are available.

Machine Data Storage

Digital machines have the quandary of generating large files of production processing data and yet have small storage capacity. By definition, most  manufacturing machines run 24x7. How does one gather the data files? FilePilot Copy™ can be configured to copy processing data to the back office servers for analysis and storage on a defined schedule. This enables the factory floor systems to be continuously in service.
